On June 1, Knox County Association launched its second "Truck Stop Ministry" at the Pilot station at the Strawberry Plains exit off I-40. The Pilot Corporation national headquarters is here in Knoxville, and this particular station has been built recently and designed as the "model" for their stations nationwide. Approximately 15,000 trucks come through Knoxville every day, and hundreds of those trucks stop at the Pilot Truck Stop to refuel or to spend the night. Because we have experienced very positive results at the Petro Truck Stop at Watt Road over the past nine years with an average of 30 to 40 salvations occurring each year, we are now delighted that we have been given permission by Pilot to have this second Truck Stop Ministry. We anticipate similar or greater results as we have experienced during the last nine years. Please pray for Bill Irving, Director or our Truck Stop Ministry for the Association, as well as those who serve with him. Bill is giving direct oversight to the ministry at Pilot, while Bruce Brandon, Associate Truck Stop Ministry Director for our Association, gives oversight to the ministry at Petro. Any person who has an interest in becoming a Truck Stop Ministry "Chaplain" should contact Bill Irving at his home number of 546-8546, or email him at billandsueirving@mail.ns |

The truck stop ministry began in October 2001, at the Petro truck stop at Watt Road in west Knoxville. Since that time, an average of almost 1 person per week has been saved. Currently this ministry is a cooperative effort of Knox, Loudon and Big Emory associations, using volunteers. The opportunity to expand this ministry with a second chapel at Strawberry Plains exit on I-40 is a strong possibility.
